The German Tennis Club Hannover eV (DTV) was founded in 1896 and is the oldest tennis club in Hannover . He has been a member of the Leading Tennis Clubs of Germany since January 1st, 2014 .

The club, which has around 1700 members (as of April 2016), has been based on Theodor-Heuss-Platz between Hanover Zoo and the Eilenriedestadion since 1934 . In 1953 the hockey department was founded as the second sport offered by the club. The approximately 47,000 m² club area is equipped with 13 tennis courts, two of which have stands for around 1200 spectators, a three-field tennis hall, an artificial hockey pitch with floodlights, a natural hockey pitch and a hockey hall. A 25 m swimming pool is also available to members. Well-known club members are and were Gerhard Schröder and Gottfried von Cramm .

The oldest tennis club in Hanover was founded in the early days of the German Empire in 1896, initially with two tennis courts near the Petrikirche in Kleefeld . In 1908 the first clubhouse was built after the slaughterhouse .

In 1913, the DTV Hanover hosted the German tennis championships for the first time .

At the beginning of the Weimar Republic , the DTV was one of the largest Hanoverian sports clubs with 400 members in 1920.

In 1924 Gottfried von Cramm joined the association. In 1927, Nelly Stephanus became German champion in singles, while von Cramm won the title of German junior champion in doubles together with Feo Harz .

In 1934, today's club premises with a new clubhouse and a 10-seat facility next to the Eilenriedestadion were moved into.

After the bombing by the air raids on Hanover in World War II , the sports facilities were rebuilt and a swimming pool was added.

In 1953 the hockey department was founded, for which two playgrounds and a hall were put into operation in 1961. So the hockey men were finally promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga (as of 2009).

In 2016, the first women's team in the tennis division played in the 1st Bundesliga , as well as in the 2018 and 2019 seasons .
