12 Angry Men ( 12 Angry Men ) is an American , for television courtroom drama produced by William Friedkin from the year 1997 to a stage presentation of Reginald Rose . It is a remake of the 1957 film drama The Twelve Jurors by Sidney Lumet .

action

A 19-year-old boy from an immigrant ghetto is charged with stabbing his father in an argument, who has beaten him repeatedly since he was very young. His public defender has defended him with little energy and the evidence seems clear. Initially, 11 jurors are firmly convinced of the guilt of the accused. Only juror # 8 has “reasonable doubt”. Since the judge has to be presented with a unanimous decision, this is followed by a long, lively discussion on what is, according to the weather forecast, “the hottest day of the year”. Because all male jurors are very different in origin, skin color, education, age and personality, tensions and verbal attacks arise. In the grueling session, juror No. 8 succeeds through persistence, logic , eloquence, and empathy to gradually bring the others to his side, whereby the observations of the two main witnesses turn out to be dubious and without exception every evidence is invalidated. The boy is ultimately unanimously declared innocent.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was “top-class cast”, its dramaturgy was “radically built according to the rules of the unity of place and time” and required “full concentration” from the viewer: a “dense experience of democratic civil courage”.

The magazine prisma wrote that Friedkin's version did not match the quality of the original, but praised the “proper” staging and the “good” cast of the roles.

Cinema spoke of a "phenomenally" played "exciting" film that was a "noble new edition".
