The Fallers - The SWR Black Forest Series (until 2011: The Fallers - Eine Schwarzwaldfamilie ) is a television series by Südwestrundfunk about the life of a fictional family on a farm in the Black Forest .
production
The first recordings in the series Die Fallers were made in 1994. By February 18, 2018, 962 episodes were broadcast. A season consists of eight episodes.
From the beginning of around 100,000 viewers, the response rose to well over a million per episode, which is broadcast on SWR television every Sunday evening. Other third programs in Germany have taken over the series, at least temporarily, into the program. The episodes are filmed a year in advance, unlike, for example, on Lindenstrasse . Because of this, the series cannot go into current events.
Production has been in HDTV format since summer 2008 .
content
It tells the story of the Faller family's life on a farm in the Black Forest. There are all sorts of entanglements after the senior Hermann became mayor of the fictional community of Schönwald in the course of the series. His brothers Franz (formerly managing director of the family's own sawmill, then temporarily a hotelier) and Heinz (former missionary in Africa, then managing director of the family's own sawmill, now social worker) play their part. In all common places, however, real problems of agriculture in the high altitude of the Black Forest are taken up again and again . The main focus of the series, however, is on the three children of Hermann and Johanna, Kati, Bernhard and Karl (the heir to the court), who cannot get their numerous professional and relationship problems under control. In order to achieve greater authenticity , actors who speak the Alemannic dialect or the Black Forest dialect were almost exclusively employed for the main characters .
Filming
Most of the filming, including almost all of the interior shots, takes place in the SWR studios in Baden-Baden . The outdoor shots are shot in the Black Forest. The Unterfallengrundhof in the municipality of Furtwangen-Neukirch was chosen as the shooting location . The series name was also derived from the farm name. The stable scenes are also filmed here.
In the Baden-Baden region there are other locations for outdoor work, such as the town hall in Ebersteinburg and the church in Reichental . The Gasthaus Rössle in Todtnau-Geschwend is used for the exterior shots of Gasthaus Löwen .
In September 2008, the outdoor filming in Neukirch and Gütenbach began for the episodes that could be seen in 2009.

main characters
Wilhelm Faller
Wilhelm Faller is the father of Hermann, Franz and Heinz Faller and was the head of the family until his death. He told of the time when he was a shepherd boy tending the cows, of the hard time on the farm, the war, his love for his wife Rita and the return from captivity. Often in life he had asked himself what remains of you after death. “A stone and the few stories that are in circulation about you,” wrote Wilhelm in his memoir. Precisely because that was not enough for him, he wrote down his life story for his descendants, for his family. During a walk in the forest, he died on his high seat at the age of 88.
Hermann Faller
Hermann has been the head of the Faller family since his father's death. He was the farmer at the Fallerhof until the farm was handed over to his son Karl. He was also the local mayor and, together with his two brothers, a partner in the family saw. The stress and unhealthy lifestyle took its toll, and Hermann had a heart attack. Hermann was in deep shock and tried to make his life healthier. But the good intentions did not last long. He himself finds it much more unhealthy to live contrary to his nature. He also hates change and can develop into a choleric in certain situations. Under the hard shell, however, he also has a soft core, so that in certain cases he can take care of his family. Johanna calls him "Brummel". After retiring as mayor due to old age (broadcast in spring 2009), he devoted himself to setting up a local community with a local museum.
Johanna Faller
Johanna Faller is the good soul of the family who takes care of the big and small problems of others. As a little girl, she came to the Faller-Hof during the war with the children's country deportation . Because her parents died in the war, she stayed there and later married Hermann Faller. He calls her "Blümle". In a later episode she learns that her brother Werner, who was believed to have died for a long time, survived the war and lives in Hamburg and Canada. Since then, he has been visiting the family several times until his death. Despite many grievances in the family, which in the meantime were connected with sleep disorders, Johanna knows that the family always sticks together when it matters.
Karl Faller
As the eldest son, Karl now runs the family's farm and also runs the Fallersche sawmill. Karl finds support on the farm in the lively Bea, with whom he is happily married in his second marriage. His first wife, Christina, died in a car accident (episode 195). After he couldn't get over this loss for a long time, he found his new luck with Bea. The two now have their own small family with the adopted Jenny.
Bea Faller
Bea is Karl's second wife and met him when she was still working as a showman. In the meantime she has settled in on the Fallerhof, but she wants to do more than just be a farmer. She is always looking for new tasks and challenges, such as with her guest apartments on the Fallerhof and as the chairwoman of the Schönwälder Tourism Association. Karl has now also understood that Bea will probably never become a typical farmer. Bea is also a member of the volunteer fire brigade.
Crossover
Lindenstrasse
There are two crossover episodes to the WDR soap opera Lindenstrasse . Else Kling, for example, travels to the Black Forest in episode 630 of Lindenstrasse "Sweets the bells ..." and spends her vacation at Fallerhof in episode 130 "Visits from Lindenstrasse" . In Lindenstrasse episode 632 “Verschnupft” Helga Beimer also travels to the Fallers and appears there in episode 131 “Helga Beimer's Black Forest Tour” . The two episodes that belong together were shown on the same evening when they were first broadcast.
Home is home
There is also a crossover episode for the BR soap opera “ Dahoam is Dahoam ”. In episodes 1262–1265 of Dahoam is Dahoam, Bernd Clemens is a guest in Lansing, Bavaria , where he meets Veronika "Vroni" Brunner (played by Senta Auth ). In episode 877, Vroni then visits her “Black Forest Cowboy” Bernd in Schönwald.
Through a crossover between Lindenstrasse and In allerfreund , The Fallers are part of the common series universe with the ARD series veterinarian Dr. Mertens , cheerful to fatal: Ex-files , Schloss Einstein , Marienhof , Verbotene Liebe , Lindenstrasse, Dahoam is Dahoam, In all friendship and the spin-off In all friendship - The young doctors .
parody
Andreas Müller parodied the Fallers on SWF 3 (later SWR3 ) in his short radio play series Die Lallers - about the life and death of a family in Baden . From 2002 onwards, Müller was allowed to play a guest role in the television series ( Mr. Müller or Auto-Müller , a good-natured, but somewhat silly owner of a car repair shop).
