content

Percy Jackson is sent off with Charles Beckendorf, a son of Hephaestus , to destroy a ship full of monsters and the Titan Kronos . The mission succeeds, but Beckendorf dies and Percy passes out into the realm of Poseidon, who is at war. He orders Percy to return to Camp Half-Blood and listen to the great prophecy. At camp, Percy learns that the giant Typhon has escaped from his prison and is on his way to destroy Olympus . Although the gods try to stop him, he destroys many cities. Shortly afterwards Percy is taken to the underworld by the son of Hades , Nico Di Angelo , to take the curse of Achilles on himself. But he is betrayed and taken to Hades, who locks him up and denies him information about the war. With the help of the son of Hades, Percy frees himself, bathes in the Styx and thus becomes invulnerable. He orders Nico to stay with his father and persuade him to fight.

At the Empire State Building he gathers all Greek demigods except for the children of Ares . Together they fend off the invasion of Kronos. The hunters of Artemis , children of Ares, the centaurs , Hades and the dead join the defenders but are gradually overwhelmed. During a brief correspondence with Poseidon, Percy convinces him to leave his realm and support the gods against Typhon. In the end, Kronos, who has taken possession of the demigod Luke Castellan, seals Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Grover the satyr and the huntress Thalia Grace from Manhattan . Kronos tries to destroy the thrones of the gods on Olympus, but Percy prevents him. In the end, he defeats Kronos in a sword fight, but cannot kill him because his body has bathed Luke Castellan in the Styx and is invulnerable. But when Kronos tries to take on his true form and thereby kill everyone, including his host body, Luke briefly gains control of his body and persuades Percy to give him a weapon. Percy gives Luke a dagger with which he wounds his body at the weak point that only he knows, killing himself and Kronos. However, he makes a promise to Percy before he dies. To the end there is an uncertainty as to how much Luke will reciprocate Annabeth's crushes.

The gods who defeated Typhon with the help of Poseidon grant Percy Jackson a wish. He fulfills his promise and wishes that all gods have to recognize their children so that there are no more unknown demigods. In addition, all minor gods as well as Hades should get a hut for their children in Camp Half-Blood. Percy decides against the immortality offered to him.

At the end of the book, Percy's human friend Rachel Elizabeth Dare decides to become the new oracle of the half-blood camp. Annabeth and Percy, who fell in love over the course of the series, become a couple. Rachel, meanwhile introduced as a new oracle by the god Apollo, proclaims a prophecy that speaks of a renewed rescue of Olympus by seven demigods. However, the point in time when this prediction will come true remains unclear.
