The Huallanca district is located in the Bolognesi province in the Ancash region of western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 818 km². The 2017 census counted 6749 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7772, in 2007 it was 8249. The district administration is located in the small town of Huallanca at 3540 m with 5221 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huallanca is located 37 km northeast of the provincial capital Chiquian . There are several mines in the district that mine ore.
Geographical location
The district of Huallanca is located on the eastern flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the extreme northeast of the Bolognesi province. The western district boundary runs along the continental divide . The Río Vizcarra drains the area to the east.
The Huallanca district borders on the Huasta and Aquia districts to the west, the San Marcos ( Huari Province ) and Llata ( Huamalíes Province ) districts to the north, and the Pachas , Ripán and La Unión districts to the northeast (all three in the Dos de Mayo ) as well as in the southeast and in the south to the districts of Rondos , Baños and Queropalca (all three in the province of Lauricocha ).
