Ehrenberg is a municipality in the Hildburghausen district in the Franconian south of the Free State of Thuringia . She belongs to the administrative community Feldstein . The administrative seat is in the city of Themar . Ehrenberg is the smallest municipality in the district in terms of area.
location
Ehrenberg is located southeast of the Veßra monastery on a higher plateau inclined to the west on the southern heights of the lock . These are forested to the east. In terms of traffic, the place is connected via the state road 1625 which runs past the Schleusetal .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1141. The ruins of the pilgrimage church of St. Ottilien are in the district . During the time of the tribal duchies, the place was in the Duchy of Franconia . In terms of lordship, the place in the Themar office initially belonged to the county of Henneberg , after 1583 to various Saxon duchies and from 1826 to 1918 to Saxony-Meiningen . In 1920 he came to the state of Thuringia . Ehrenberg was hit by witch persecution from 1614 to 1680. Two women got into a witch trial . In 1680 Margaretha, wife of Lorenz Siebenlist, was executed.
During the Thirty Years War, the place was partially destroyed by marauding soldiers in 1634.
