About this picture

Schlechtsart is a municipality in the Heldburger Land with about 170 inhabitants in the Hildburghausen district in the Franconian south of the Free State of Thuringia . It belongs to the administrative community Heldburger Unterland . The administrative seat is in the city of Heldburg .

geography

The village is located on the Bavarian-Thuringian border, opposite the Lower Franconian town of Trappstadt . The mountains Spanshügel , Brummharz , Bernhardshügel , Lindig , Kornberg and Stierhügel are the highest peaks in the vicinity. By the local position of the stream flows Westhauser Kreck , a swelling stream of Kreck .

history

It was first mentioned in a document in 1260 .

At the state border near Trappstadt, the local Altenburg and a Landwehr on the Thuringian side with Wartberg near Gompertshausen demonstrate the centuries-old border position of the places. However, this did not lead to complete isolation from Schlechtsart until after the Second World War. After decades of seclusion, the village was accessible again when the border opened in 1989.

The municipal council in Schlechtsart consists of six council members who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on June 7, 2009 .

Protestant church
  • The early Romanesque church is called the nave in the village . The appearance of the church tower is unusual: the builder placed a transverse saddle roof on the white plastered half-timbered tower.
  • On the Krautberg there is a memorial cross for the villagers who fell in the Battle of Leipzig and another memorial stone for the fallen and missing residents of the two world wars.
  • The traditional Backhausfest and the Krautbergfest are celebrated in the village .
  • Hiking trail "Grenzgänger" to the history and ecology of the former inner-German border .
  • The nature reserve Schlechtsarter Schweiz is located south of the village.
