Elwira Uladsimirauna Herman ( Belarusian Эльвіра Уладзіміраўна Герман , English transcription Elvira Herman ; born January 9, 1997 in Pinsk ) is a Belarusian hurdler who specializes in the 100 meter distance .

Athletic career

Elwira Herman played her first competition at international championships at the European Youth Olympic Festival 2013 in Utrecht , where she won the bronze medal. In 2014 she took part in the second Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing , where she won the silver medal behind Frenchwoman Laura Valette . In 2015 she won the gold medal at the Junior European Championships in Eskilstuna, Sweden . In 2016 she qualified for the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she reached the semi-finals. A few weeks later she surprisingly prevailed at the U20 World Championships against the competition from the United States and the Nigerian Oluwatobiloba Amusan and won the gold medal with a new championship record and junior European record of 12.85 seconds.

In 2017 she took part in the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade , where she reached the semifinals over 60 m hurdles. At the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , she ran under 13 seconds and only had to admit defeat to the Dutch Nadine Visser . In August she took part in the World Championships in London and reached the semi-finals there . At the World Student Games in Taipei two weeks later, the student from the Belarusian State University of Sports Culture also won the silver medal behind Visser. In 2018 Herman qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 8.06 s. At the European Championships taking place in Berlin in the same year , she won the gold medal in 12.67 s ahead of the two Germans Pamela Dutkiewicz and Cindy Roleder .

In 2019, Herman won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in 8.00 s and had to admit defeat to Visser from the Netherlands and Cindy Roleder from Germany. At the end of June, she won the European Games in Minsk in 12.86 s over 100 m hurdles and shortly afterwards improved the championship record to 12.70 s at the U23 European Championships in Gävle , thus also winning gold. She qualified again for the World Championships in Doha in October, where she reached the semi-finals and was eliminated there with 12.78 s.

From 2017 to 2019, Herman was Belarusian champion in the 100-meter hurdles outdoors and in 2017 and 2019 indoor champion over 60-meter hurdles
