history

Emil Fischer (1852-1919)

One of the roots of the Emil Fischer School is the Victoria (also: Viktoria) technical school in Berlin-Schöneberg , where since 1878 a. a. Housekeepers, housekeeping managers and clothing technicians were trained.

In 1983 the Victoria Technical School, Louise Schroeder Vocational School ( Wedding ), Elsa Brandström Vocational School ( Tiergarten ) and Brillat Savarin Vocational School ( Wilmersdorf ) were combined as the Upper School for Nutrition and Home Economics and moved into the newly built school building in Cyclopstrasse. At the same time, the Berlin State Technical School for Food Technology with the fields of bakery technology and meat processing technology, which had previously resided in Pfalzburger Strasse (Wilmersdorf), was integrated into the OSZ .

After the reunification of Berlin in 1990, four more vocational schools from the former eastern part of the city were incorporated : the company vocational school (BBS) 'Simon Bolivar' (restaurants), the BBS 'Edwin Hoernle' (meat products), the BBS 'Heinrich Preuss' (baked goods ) and the BBS 'HO WtB' (everyday goods).

The upper school center has been called Emil Fischer School since 1993 . Also in 1993, pupils were admitted to the vocational high school for the first time. In 1998 the number of pupils had grown to over 7,000, spread over three locations. In the same year the hospitality department ( hotel and restaurant staff , cooks ) was spun off as OSZ hospitality - Brillat-Savarin-Schule with a new location in Pankow .

While some programs have been discontinued or transferred to other high school centers over time, e.g. B. the training of dietitians have recently been added; most recently the establishment of welcome classes and the technical college focus on food packaging technology.

Courses

Detailed information on the courses, admission requirements and follow-up prospects can be found on the school's website.

Vocational and training preparation

Vocational preparation course (BV) with part-time instruction

Students who are unemployed or have no training receive vocational school lessons if they have not yet reached the age of 20. The measure is carried out on behalf of the Berlin-Brandenburg regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency . It is not possible to acquire a general school leaving certificate in these courses.

Integrated vocational training preparation (IBA)

The Integrated Vocational Training Preparation (IBA) prepares you for initial vocational training or for a job. With appropriate performance, the vocational training qualification (BBR), the extended vocational training qualification (eBBR) or the intermediate school leaving certificate (MSA) can be acquired.

Welcome classes (WKK)

Several welcome classes have been set up since 2015 . The offer is aimed at young foreigners; in addition to refugees from crisis areas, there are also EU immigrants and 'normal' immigrants with little knowledge of German. In addition to the subject German as a foreign language , practical work in class kitchens, workshops and bakeries is the focus of the lessons. The aim is to integrate young people and adolescents into regular training as quickly as possible.

Initial vocational training

Vocational School (OB)

A dual training takes place at the two training company and school. The vocational school of the OSZ Nutrition and Food Technology is attended by anyone who has signed a training contract with a Berlin company in the following training professions:

Full-time vocational training (two-year vocational college BFS)

At the two-year vocational school , training is possible in three courses that conclude with state recognition as an assistant. It includes a six-week internship and otherwise takes place in full school.

The courses require a secondary school leaving certificate. Afterwards the one-year technical college can be attended in order to achieve the general technical college entrance qualification.

University qualification

Fachoberschule (FOS)

The technical college leads to the general technical college entrance qualification with full-time courses. This means that it is possible to study in any course at universities of applied sciences or comprehensive universities . Forms of organization are the two-year technical college (internship model) and the one-year technical college. If you have completed vocational training or have had many years of professional experience, the technical college is shortened to one year.

Vocational high school (OG)

The vocational high school leads to a general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) in three years. In addition to a maximum age of 19 years, a secondary school leaving certificate or promotion to the 11th grade is required. Interested parties can choose to focus on nutrition or biotechnology at the Emil Fischer School. The focus on design and media technology is also offered together with the Ernst-Litfaß-Schule.

State College for Food Technology Berlin (LEFA)

The State Technical School for Food Technology Berlin trains food technicians in a two-year course. A prerequisite for participation is relevant professional training in the professional field (e.g. as a baker, pastry chef, butcher, specialist salesman in the food trade, cook or specialist in food technology) with subsequent employment.

The further training leads to qualification as a state-certified food technician and can be completed in one of four areas:

  • Bakery technology
  • Meat processing technology
  • Technology of ready meals and delicatessen
  • Food packaging technology

Most graduates then work in the management of the food and supply industry, e.g. B. as a department or production manager, in quality management or as a specialist advisor or training manager. Others use their degree to study at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin (food technology, packaging technology) or at the Technical University of Berlin (e.g. food chemistry).

In accordance with the professional requirements, the Emil Fischer School has extensive and practical equipment with scientific laboratories and workshops for food production and processing.

It is also used to familiarize pupils in general schools (grades 9–13) with genetic engineering and biotechnology as well as immunology through practical experimentation. Since 2011, this offer has been expanded to include internships in the fields of neurobiology and bioinformatics .

The technical school for food technology maintains extensive collaborations with companies in the food industry in order to deepen the practical relevance of the technical training, and with associations such as the Association of the Baking Industry (vdb) . The German Agricultural Society (DLG) has been carrying out product tests in the school's laboratories and workshops since 2005, in which the students are involved. • Förderverein Berliner Lebensmitteltechniker e. V.

Numerous schoolchildren, trainees and students are supported by book money and grants for participating in specialist events and courses. Many of the teaching aids and furnishings required for the training could not have been procured without the third-party funding from sponsors that the development associations have acquired.
