Erol is a Turkish male first name and family name .

Origin and meaning

Erol is a common Turkish first and last name (family names were first introduced in Turkey under Ataturk in 1935 ). Erol is probably a short form of the two words "er oğlu" and means "hero". Literally, “he” can mean man , brave man , able man, or soldier . In the Turkish military he is still the lowest military rank today . “Oğlu”, however, means son.
