Falkenbach is a district of the municipality of Villmar in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Central Hesse .

Geographical location

Falkenbach lies on the right slope of the Lahn valley . The river flows directly along the eastern edge of the village. The place is about 5.5 kilometers northeast of Villmar and about 14 kilometers northeast of the district town of Limburg an der Lahn . In terms of nature, the place is assigned to the Weilburg Lahn valley area .

The district borders in the northwest on the Runkeler district Wirbelau , in the north and northeast on Gräveneck , in the east on Blessenbach (both districts of Weinbach ), in the southeast in one point on Aumenau and in the south and southwest on Seelbach (both Villmarer districts). The Lahn forms the eastern boundary of the district. Only about 400 meters southeast of the outskirts, on the other side of the Lahn, is Fürfurt , a district of Weinbach without its own boundary.

The place has expanded from an old core on the slope near the Lahn towards the west. The place itself is around 170 meters above sea level. The district is characterized by the wide, gently cut valley of the Falkenbach, which, coming from the west, flows into the Lahn on the south-eastern edge of the village. In a forest area north of the village there is a parallel, more deeply incised brook valley. This double trough valley is closed in the west by a range of hills and in the east by the Lahn. The highest point is reached at around 245 meters northwest of the village.

The northern and western part of the district is covered by mixed forest, which directly connects to the place in the north. Another, smaller piece of forest is located south of the village and on the slope of the Lahn valley. The area west and southwest of Falkenbach is mainly used for agriculture.

history

church
Community house, formerly a school

In 1292 the place was first mentioned in a tax register of the Dietkirchen Abbey. Presumably, the place already belonged to the Runkel rule at this time .

From 1495 onwards, the church belonged to the parish of Villmar. The residents of Fürfurt also used the church and cemetery in Falkenbach. Both places were connected by a ford in the Lahn. After the Reformation was introduced around 1570, Falkenbach and Aumenau became part of the parish in Seelbach. The old chapel was demolished in 1821, and a new cemetery was created in 1927. In 1953, Falkenbach moved from the parish of Seelbach to an evangelical parish with Gräveneck . In 1957 the new Protestant church was completed. The few Catholics in the village belong to the parish of Villmar. The school location was Seelbach until 1819. The school building that was then built in the village, which was also the community bakery, was demolished in 1966. As early as 1901, however, lessons were given in a new school building. In 1970 the school ceased operations. Today the building is used as a community center.

Territorial reform

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipalities of Villmar, Falkenbach, Langhecke and Seelbach merged on December 31, 1970 on a voluntary basis to form the new municipality of Villmar. Local districts according to the Hessian municipal code were not established.
