The airport Zonguldak-Çaycuma , even Zonguldak Airport ( Turkish Zonguldak Çaycuma Havalimanı or Zonguldak Havalimanı ; IATA Code : ONQ , ICAO code : LTAS ) is located in the west of Turkey's Black Sea region in the province of Zonguldak in the district Çaycuma, town Saltukova.
history
Construction began in 1991, but due to financial difficulties, the airport was not completed until eight years later, in 1999. In 2002 the airport was officially closed because no flight movements had taken place. Five years later, in 2007, the airport was leased and reopened by the company Zonguldak Özel Sivil Havacılık Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş (ZONHAV) . The first commercial flight to Zonguldak took place on July 21, 2009 with a Boeing 737-700 of the German airline Germania chartered by the tour operator Öger Tours under flight number ST6310, fully occupied with 148 passengers from Düsseldorf .
Furnishing
The runway (Runway 18/36) is 1800 m long, 30 m wide and made of concrete. The airport has a common terminal for departure and arrival and has a capacity for 500,000 passengers per year.
In 2018, maintenance work was carried out on the runway and an ILS landing system was installed. The airport operator is hoping for new customers. Turkish Airlines is already examining a route to Zonguldak.
Trivia
In order for Zonguldak Airport to receive an operating permit from the Turkish aviation authority DHMİ , the 235 m high mountain Bostancılar (also called Keleş by the residents there ) had to be cleared and partially removed to the west of runway 18/36 .
