Trivia
Qualification was slow for the vice-world champion Germany. After the draw against Lithuania and Scotland, which was disappointing from a German point of view, Iceland was now top of the group. After the 0-0 win in Iceland , team boss Rudi Völler gave ARD a legendary interview in which he violently attacked moderators Gerhard Delling and Günter Netzer against Waldemar Hartmann .
