Team manager Ryan Giggs , who took over the team after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in January 2018, used a total of 26 players in the qualification. Of these, Captain Gareth Bale , Ben Davies , goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey , Daniel James and Harry Wilson were used in all eight games. In a friendly against Trinidad & Tobago four days before the first qualifying game, Will Vaulks was used for the first time, and he made three appearances in qualifying. Record national player Chris Gunter only had one use .

The best goalscorers with only two goals were record goalscorers Gareth Bale, Kieffer Moore and Aaron Ramsey , who only made two appearances in the last two games due to an injury, but secured the qualification with the two goals against Hungary. Three other players scored and the Welsh also benefited from an own goal. The ten qualifying goals are the fewest of all directly qualified teams. Finals

Ireland, Scotland and Wales had considered joint applications for Euro 2020 in 2012. After the decision of UEFA to host the Euro 2020 in several European cities, Wales had applied with the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to host finals, but was not considered.

In the draw on November 30, 2019, the Welsh were drawn into the group with Italy, Switzerland and Turkey. Against Italy, the record is negative with seven defeats and two wins. The last game between the two on September 6, 2003 was lost 4-0. A year earlier there was the last victory against Italy. The record against Switzerland is also negative with two wins and five losses. The last defeat against the Swiss was on October 12, 2010 in qualifying for the Euro 2012. A year later, the second leg was won, which meant that the Swiss missed the finals. Against the Turks there have been three wins, one draw and two defeats in six competitive games so far, the last in the last game so far with 4-6 in August 1997.

If the Welsh team wins group winners, they would - subject to the retention of the venues - play in London against the runner-up in Group C with the Netherlands, Austria and the Ukraine; runner-up in the first round of 16 in Amsterdam against the runner-up in Group B, e.g. B. Belgium, Denmark or Russia. If she were one of the four best third, were either the winners of Group B, Group E with Spain and the winner of Group F with Germany, world champion France and defending champions Portugal opponents in the second round, and then in Bilbao , Bucharest or Glasgow would play .
