European Football Championship 2021 / Turkey
This article covers the Turkish national team and their career at and during the pan-European football championship 2021 . For Turkey it is the fifth European Championship final round since Turkey qualified for a European Championship for the first time in 1996 . The Turks missed the finals twice (2004, 2012).
qualification
The Turkish senior team completed the qualification for the European Championship qualifying Group H. After the UEFA Nations League 2018/19 , in Turkey out of the League B sporty in the league C descent ( before the rule change ) and thus the term of Mircea Lucescu as national coach neared the end, they met in the first qualifying game in March 2019 under the old and newly appointed national coach Şenol Güneş in Albania and won 0-2 away. The national coach Güneş also looked after Beşiktaş Istanbul until the end of the 2018/19 club league season . The Turks also won the next two games against Moldova and group favorites / reigning world champions France (2018) . On the fourth matchday, the team of Şenol Güneş suffered their first defeat against Iceland, in the further course of the qualification it remained with this only defeat. They secured four wins and two draws in the next and last six qualifying games. With the last draw against Iceland on the penultimate match day, the Turks secured the direct qualification for the finals ahead of time. The Turkish national team finished the qualification with only three goals conceded in ten group games and thus they had with Belgium , which also conceded three goals, the best defense of the qualification with the fewest goals.

The following football players of the Turkish national team were top and key players for qualifying for the final round.
- Kaan Ayhan
The native of Gelsenkirchen and defender Ayhan played nine out of ten games in qualifying. He shone in the build-up of the game with a passing accuracy of over 90% and scored three goals as a defender, including important ones. For example, the 1-0 lead in the first leg against reigning world champions France, which ended in a 2-0 win. Furthermore, in the second leg against France, he made it 1: 1 equalizer and final score. So his team remained undefeated against the group favorites and reigning world champions. With his football performance data, Ayhan was one of the 50 best football players in the qualification.
The 1.92 m tall and early 20-year-old defender Demiral played all games in the qualification. At the age of 21, he is currently considered the team's greatest talent and is under contract with the Italian record champions Juventus Turin . Like Ayhan, he shone in the structure of the game with a high pass accuracy of 90%. He headed the defense of his team as head of defense and they remained in eight qualifying games without conceding. With his football performance data, Demiral was among the 100 best football players in the qualification, and based on his football playing position, he was also appointed to the “ team of the tournament for qualifying for UEFA EURO 2020 ”.
The goalkeeper Günok played nine of ten games in qualifying and conceded three goals, in seven games he remained without a goal. This made the Turk one of the goalkeepers with the fewest goals. With his football performance data, Günok, like Demiral, was among the 100 best football players in the qualification.
- Hakan Çalhanoğlu
Born in Mannheim and offensive player Çalhanoğlu played nine out of ten games in qualifying. He shone with a pass accuracy of 86% and with 18 crosses . Furthermore, Çalhanoğlu scored the 0-2 away win against Albania in March 2019, in addition, he prepared the goal in October 2019 to equalize and finish 1-1 against France, so his team remained undefeated against the group favorites. With his football performance data, Çalhanoğlu was one of the 200 best football players in the qualification.
- Cenk Tosun
Born in Wetzlar , the strong striker Tosun was the top goalscorer for the Turks with five goals in six qualifying matches. He scored important goals, for example the 1-0 winner in the final minutes against Albania in October 2019.
Tests and preparations
After the end of the 2019/20 season, the team will attend a training camp in Antalya. During the European Championship is their national quarters in the Hotel-Residence Klosterpforte in Marienfeld ( Gütersloh - Ostwestfalen reside).
