In Group 4, the young Hungarian team was particularly convincing, shining above all against England (2: 1) and Bulgaria (6: 1). The stars of the technically convincing Magyars were goalkeeper Grosics (last player from the 54 team) and the great young center forward Florian Albert. When Albert was missing against Argentina, it was only enough to make it 0-0. Meanwhile, England secured second place with a bang, with the goal difference against Argentina being decisive. In the 3-1 win against the Gauchos, the English, dominated by Jimmy Greaves and Bobby Charlton, showed their best performance.

In Viña del Mar met Brazil and England each other. An outstanding right winger Garrincha was the match winner in an encounter in which the Brazilians were able to fully convince for the first time. Garrincha's two goals and a goal from Vavá in a goal conceded to make it 1-1 from Hitchens, the center forward from Inter Milan , meant the 3-1 and the favorite's entry into the semi-finals.
