history

Göritz was first mentioned in 1503 under the name Goricz . The place name comes from Sorbian and, according to Reinhard E. Fischer, goes back to the name Chor , which probably refers to a former village owner. The Sorbian place name comes from the word chóry , which means sick or lean .

According to the topographical-statistical overview of the administrative district of Frankfurt ad O. from 1844, Göritz owned a manor that was enfeoffed by a judge at the time. At that time the place had 13 residential buildings and 58 inhabitants and had a water mill . Göritz was parish in Wüstenhain . In 1867 Göritz had 62 inhabitants in only 10 residential buildings, the manor at that time belonged to a Lieutenant Colonel Larich from Reddern .

The place Göritz was intended for the demolition and the dredging by the brown coal opencast mine Greifenhain . In 1977, 1983 and 1984 there were several demolitions of part of the town, of which only one building was spared. The number of resettled residents is unknown.

At the Congress of Vienna in 1815, after the defeat of the Kingdom of Saxony, it was decided to assign territories to the Kingdom of Prussia , which also affected Göritz. After that, the then municipality was in the district of Calau in the administrative district of Frankfurt in the province of Brandenburg . On January 1, 1926, Göritz was dissolved as a community and incorporated into Casel . After the end of World War II, Göritz became part of the Soviet occupation zone and later the GDR . During the district reform on July 25, 1952, the municipality of Casel with the district of Göritz came to the district of Cottbus-Land in the district of Cottbus . After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the Cottbus-Land district was renamed the Cottbus district . In the course of the Brandenburg district reform in 1993 , the municipality of Casel and its districts came to the newly founded Spree-Neisse district and was administered there by the Drebkau (Niederlausitz) office. On December 31, 2001, Casel was incorporated into the city of Drebkau and the Drebkau (Niederlausitz) office was dissolved. Göritz was downgraded to a residential space.
