After the founding of the Warburger Neustadt under Bishop Bernhard IV. Zur Lippe , family members of those von Geismar moved there. The family belonged to the leading families and, alternating with the other patrician families from 1287 to 1760, over 10 generations, provided the city with numerous councilors and mayors. The von Geismar owned some real estate in the Neustadt, including a courtyard in Sternstrasse, next to the Hardehäuser Mönchehof , and a house built in 1343 at Marktstrasse 13 bearing the inscription: 1343 feria 3 post Pentec. Bartoldus de Geismar me fieri curavit and burnt down in 1857. There were also numerous estates in the area, mills, a salt works in Salzkotten u. a.

As a result of the impoverishment of the city after the Thirty Years' War, however, there were more and more complaints about the city councils who were accused of nepotism and favoritism, lack of accounting, injustice, arrogance and irresponsibility. As a result, in 1667 the sovereign, Prince-Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg , decreed a new council constitution with an electoral system , which de facto led to the disempowerment of the old patrician families. In addition, there were disputes over the taxation of foreign goods. Martin II von Geismar , who was still a councilor and mayor from 1644 to 1667, then left the city with his family, retired to Gut Riepen and built a baroque mansion there . 1714 was his son Wilhelm Otto von Geismar by Emperor Karl VI. awarded the title of imperial baron.
