The prize money was US $ 120,000, placing the tournament in the BWF World Grand Prix Gold category. The championship, taking place for the 66th time, was organized by 1. BV Mülheim an der Ruhr . The main and name sponsor was Yonex , patroness of Mülheim's mayor Dagmar Mühlenfeld , whose city hosted the German Open for the 16th time.
