The Kummerstall forest area borders in the northeast . Approx. The Haselmühlweiher is 0.25 km south. history

The place was first mentioned in 1272 as "Gerwigesdorf". In 1283 Albrecht Rindsmaul zu Wernfels donated “Gerrichsdorf” to the Heilsbronn monastery , which at that time consisted of 1 Hube , 2 fiefs, 1 fishing water and 1 mill. In 1287, the Eichstatt Bishop Reinboto exchanged the monastery properties in "Gerichsdorf" for episcopal properties in Mörlach . The place name has the personal name "Gērrīch" or "Gērwīg" as a defining word. A person of this name can be assumed to be the founder of the settlement.

According to the Salbuch of the Hochstift Eichstätt , which was set up around 1300, there were 6 properties in Gersbach (2 fiefs, 1 Hube and 3 mills).

In the 16-point report of the Oberamt Windsbach from 1608, 4 teams are recorded for Gersbach: the 2 farms and 2 mills were subordinate to the Kastenamt Spalt . There was also a communal shepherd's house. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach caste and city bailiff's office in Windsbach . This information is covered by the Salbuch from Eichstätt from 1615. In 1665 1 Sölde is also listed. The place, which was completely burned down in the Thirty Years' War , was still deserted at that time.

In the Vetterchen description of the Oberamt Windsbach from 1732 2 mills, 2 farms and 1 estate were recorded for “Gehrsbach”, all of which were subordinate to the caste office Spalt. The high court and the village and community rulership was exercised by the caste and municipal bailiff's office in Windsbach.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 5 properties in Gersbach with Hasel and Neumühle (1 courtyard, 2 half courtyards, 2 mills). The high court was exercised by the caste and municipal bailiff's office in Windsbach. The caste office Spalt held the village and community rulership and the lordship over all properties. In addition to the households, there was the shepherd's house, which was a communal building. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the Justice and Chamber Office Windsbach .

As part of the community edict, Gersbach was assigned to the Mitteleschenbach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Mitteleschenbach, founded in 1810 .

Waterworks

When, at the end of the 19th century, the Ansbach springs proved to be too unproductive and too polluted to ensure the city's drinking water supply in the future, the city decided to supply water from outside. In 1896 the council decided to channel the water from the springs at the Gersbacher Mühle over a distance of 25 km and a difference in altitude of about 100 m into the city. In addition to the amount of water of 50 liters / second, the purity and good taste were decisive.

The Nuremberg hydraulic engineer Heinrich Kullmann received the order in 1898 to build the waterworks in Gersbach, which was supposed to supply Ansbach via a high-pressure water pipe. 1.5 million gold marks were estimated for the construction .

The water was drawn from twelve springs; necessary tunnels were excavated by Italian miners . A processing plant was built in the Gersbach, the chimney of which is visible from afar. A pipe with a nominal diameter of 275/225 mm was used to connect the waterworks to the elevated tank for 1,800 m³ of water that was being built in Ansbach at the same time. After its completion in November 1900, the waterworks supplied 1,184 households in Ansbach with drinking water.

Since the waterworks soon proved to be no longer adequate due to the steadily increasing demand for drinking water, the systems were expanded and new wells built during the First World War between 1915 and 1917 with the use of prisoners of war.

After the Second World War, the population growth in the city of Ansbach led to a water shortage and despite further expansion, the Gersbach waterworks had reached the limits of its capabilities in 1960. The drought of 1963 finally led to the construction of another waterworks in Schlauersbach , which went into operation in 1966.

Since 2004, a new waterworks has been built by Stadtwerke Ansbach on the outskirts of Gersbach, which will be completed in 2007 and will replace the old one.
