The Gmina Pasym [ ˈpaʃɨm ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Szczycieński of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city of the same name ( German Passenheim ) with about 2500 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the south of the voivodeship. Olsztyn (Allenstein) is 25 kilometers to the northwest, the district town of Szczytno (Ortelsburg) is six kilometers to the east. Neighboring municipalities are in the powiat Szczycieński Dźwierzuty in the northeast, Szczytno in the east and Jedwabno in the south and in the powiat Olsztyński Purda in the west and northwest.
The community has an area of 149.4 km², 46 percent of which is used for agriculture and 31 percent for forestry. Your area belongs to the Masurian Lake District . The numerous lakes make up more than ten percent of the area. The largest are Kalwa (562 hectares , Großer Kalbensee ), Jezioro Leleskie (423 hectares, Lehleskersee ) and Grom (220 hectares).
history
The rural community was formed again in 1973 from various gromadas . With the granting of city rights in 1997, it received the status of a town-and-country municipality. From 1946 to 1998, its area belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship in various forms. The powiat was disbanded from 1975 to 1998. On January 1, 1999, the community came to the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship and again to the Powiat Szczycieński.
The municipality has partnerships with Bassenheim in Rhineland-Palatinate, Sužionys in the district of Vilnius and Węgierska Górka in Silesia.

The national road DK53 , which leads from Olsztyn (Allenstein) to Szczytno (Ortelsburg) and Ostrołęka , runs through the municipality and its main town .
Railway stations on the Olsztyn – Ełk railway line are Pasym and Grom (Grammen) .
