Good Country Index

The Good Country Index is a measure of how much a country contributes to the good of the planet and humanity. The index was designed by the British political advisor Simon Anholt . The Good Country Index does not measure the quality of life or the prosperity of a country, but the contribution of the individual country to the common welfare of the world, whereby the contribution of a country is seen in relation to its relative prosperity.

The index consists of 7 categories, each of which is determined from 5 indicators ; the total of 35 indicators measure what a country contributes to global well-being and what it takes away from it (in relation to its gross domestic product , GDP). Most of the data comes from the United Nations .

• Science and technology

1. Number of foreign students in the country relative to GDP
2. Exports of scientific articles relative to GDP
3. Number of published scientific articles relative to GDP
4. Number of Nobel Prizes relative to GDP
5. Number of registered patents relative to GDP

• Culture

6. Exports of creative goods (as defined by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ) relative to GDP
7. Exports of creative services (as defined by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ) relative to GDP
8. Payments to UNESCO in arrears (negative indicator)
9. Number of nationalities granted visa-free entry
10. Freedom of the press according to Transparency International

11. Number of UN peacekeeping forces sent relative to GDP
12. Delayed payments to UN peace missions (negative indicator)
13. Attributed number of war deaths (negative indicator)
14. Arms and ammunition exports relative to GDP (negative indicator)

16. Proportion of the population that gives donations to charity
17. Number of refugees taken in relative to GDP
