The plateau is mostly used for agriculture, steeper slopes are usually forested.

history

“Gros Röhrsdorf” on a map from the Oberreit Atlas, mid-19th century

The place was first mentioned in 1347 as "Rudigersdorf". The place name is of German origin and means "village of a Rüdiger"; Eichler and Walther explain it as the combination of the personal name Rüdiger with the basic word village . Rüdiger is probably the locator who founded the Waldhufendorf in the 13th century during the German settlement in the east . Can be in 1455 "Rudigerstorff" the persons name nor recognize the unstressed syllables "di" and "ger" was in 1483 in "Rurßdorff" by contraction been disappeared or shortened. In the 16th century the place was u. a. mentioned as "Roerßdorff" (1501), "Rürsdorf" (1543) and "Rehrsdorf" (1571).

At an early stage, it was necessary to distinguish between places of the same name, as the place name Röhrsdorf is relatively common in the East Central German dialect area - it is found nine times in Saxony alone. In particular, it was important to distinguish this place from today's Dohnaer district Röhrsdorf , which is only seven kilometers further north , which was therefore once referred to as "Kleinröhrsdorf" or with the additions "bei Borthen " or "bei Pirna ". As a result, today's Liebstadt district was called “Groß-Röhrsdorf” in 1658 and, to distinguish it from the West Lusatian town of Großröhrsdorf, in 1875 also “Großröhrsdorf b. Pirna ”.

The place was under the church in Burkhardswalde . It initially belonged to the Burgraviate of Dohna and after the Dohna feud then to the Weesenstein manor , which in turn belonged to the Pirna office . On the basis of the rural community code of 1838 , Großröhrsdorf, at that time one of the larger towns in the region, gained its independence as a rural community . This also included the small town of Oberschlottwitz in the Müglitztal , which, like Großröhrsdorf, but in contrast to Schlottwitz, had previously been under the Weesenstein manor. Since 1875 Großröhrsdorf has been part of the Pirna Authority , which was renamed the Pirna District in 1939. From a territorial point of view the year 1950 represented a turning point: on the one hand, the neighboring Biensdorf was incorporated on July 1st, but on the other hand Oberschlottwitz was reclassified to Schlottwitz. From 1952 to 1994 Großröhrsdorf belonged to the Pirna district , also in 1994 it was incorporated into Liebstadt.

The latter is the only atonement cross in Saxony that shows a wheel cross .
