Fischlham is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Wels-Land district in the Hausruckviertel with 1,358 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The responsible judicial district is Wels.

geography

Fischlham is 353 m above sea level in the Hausruckviertel. The extension is 7 km from north to south and 5.1 km from west to east. The total area is 15.6 km². 18.6% of the area is forested and 68.6% of the area is used for agriculture.

Official description of the municipal coat of arms awarded in 1981: Three golden fish in blue, one above the other, with two golden wavy strips between them. The municipality colors are blue-yellow-green.

The fish symbolize the place name as a talking coat of arms , the two wavy strips stand for the Traun and the Alm , which form the north-west and west borders of the community.

history

In 1179 Fischlham is first mentioned as Vischenhaim (= settlement of fishermen) in a document by Pope Alexander III. mentioned for the monastery Kremsmünster . Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Baiern, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

From 1895 to 1897 Adolf Hitler lived at the Rauschergut in Hafeld and attended elementary school in Fischlham. Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau .

  • Fischlham parish church : The Gothic building has a ribbed vaulted choir and a baroque nave. The fisherman's pulpit in the shape of the “Schifflein Petri” from 1759 was designed by the Lambach sculptor Franz Xaver Leithner and the Lambach painter Adam Racher. The Fischlhamer Fischerkanzel is one of six pulpits of this type in Austria.
  • Bernau Castle : The moated castle is a rectangular building from the middle of the 16th century with four round corner towers with late baroque pagoda-like roofs. The castle has recently been fully restored.
  • Filial church St. Georgen im Schauertal : Secco paintings from the 14th century can be seen in the pilgrimage church .
  • Fischlhamer Au nature reserve with the Entenstein: The Entenstein is a conglomerate block overgrown by two spruce trees in a reed arm of the Traun.

politics

Franz Steininger of the ÖVP has been the mayor since April 6, 2009 after Jakob Auer resigned. Auer held the office from 1977 to 2009.

Steininger was re-elected in September 2015.

Population development

In 1991, according to the census, the municipality had 1,088 inhabitants, in 2001 it had 1258 inhabitants, and now the population is over 1,300.
