action

Ulysse, a disappointed, politically disinterested young man who is primarily drawn to beautiful women, decides to stay in Rome in 1921 after his military service , which is currently experiencing the rise of fascism .

Out of money he joins the Black Shirts and is given the task of looking for the authors of anti-fascist leaflets that are circulating in the city. Ulysse discovers that the leaflets come from a printing company run by a family of anarchists . Instead of doing his duty and reporting to the printer, he tries to get a job as an apprentice there, especially since he is interested in the owner's daughter.

A series of misunderstandings leads to his being wanted as a dangerous terrorist .

Reviews

Der Spiegel wrote in 1968 that Clement had cleared the fable of cynicism and came to the final verdict: “Just below the real comedy and high above the trivial slapstick, with the help of the excellent cameraman Decae and the actors Barbara Lass (Franca) and Alain Delon ( Odysseus) his political burlesque to the finish. "

The film service is mostly positive about the film: “A spirited and fast-paced burlesque that makes fun of political extremism in Rome in the 1920s. Due to the vacillating, satirical, and always very entertaining design, the observation of time naturally loses some weight. "
