Werner Gottfried Lieven (born October 15, 1909 in Dresden , † March 7, 1968 in Munich ) was a German actor , radio play and voice actor .

Life

Werner Lieven first attended high school and the conservatory in his home town of Dresden. He then attended university and passed his theological exam . Then, in 1933, he immediately got a job as a Protestant pastor . He held his office until 1939. But since he was interested in acting, he took acting lessons from that year. In order to be able to finance his studies, he also worked as a transport driver. But in 1941 he had to break off his studies because he was drafted into the armed forces. After the war he got an engagement at the State Theater in Dresden . In 1946 he moved to the Schlossparktheater in Berlin. From 1947 to 1950 he was under contract at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich .

In the following years he made guest appearances and appeared more often in feature films. He was mostly seen in smaller or larger supporting roles. He often embodied southern types. For example, he was seen in the Zarah Leander film Cuba Cabana in 1952 or in the double films Stars About Colombo and The Prisoners of the Maharajah in 1954 . A role that was certainly tailor-made for him was that of a Protestant pastor in the 1964 feature film Password… Heron . He played his most famous role in television. He was one of the main actors in the 1960 five-part television film On the Green Beach of the Spree by director Fritz Umgelter based on the novel of the same name by Hans Scholz . At that time it was one of the first big street sweeps on the still young German television.

The main focus of his artistic work, however, lay in the field of dubbing foreign language films. In this medium he was one of the busiest actors in Germany for about 20 years. Here he also often spoke the main roles. He worked in the studios in Hamburg , Berlin , Remagen and Munich . He was also heard more often in radio plays, for example as Inspector Kingston in the sixth crime novel in his Paul Temple series, produced by WDR in 1956, entitled Paul Temple and the Gilbert case by Francis Durbridge , with René Deltgen , Annemarie Cordes and Kurt Lieck and Peter René Körner .

Werner Lieven was married to the editor and painter Gertraut Lieven (1911–1985), with whom he had two children. Until recently he lived in the community of Grünwald near Munich . His grave is in the Grünwald Forest Cemetery , Department 1, Grave 47a. He was originally buried in Division 3, Grave 37.
