action

Mario Zozoli is a happy donkey driver in sunny Italy who loves to sing for life. That alone cannot raise the money for his little house. Together with Manina, a passionate but also very jealous young woman, he is planning a wedding for both of them as soon as the house is ready to move into. But one day he has the opportunity to capitalize on his voice. Countess Yvonne von Fouqué, with a posh and elegant car including a chauffeur called Tutu, gives Mario hopes in this direction. She is supported by another companion named Aristide, of whom nobody knows what role he is playing. Only Manina suspects that nothing good can come of this story.

With a guitar set with glittering stones as a gift, Mario is persuaded to accompany the countess and her companions to France to perform in Paris. It is only strange that when crossing the border, the entire car is taken apart, but none of the customs officers pay attention to the guitar. It is also astonishing that Mario's performances take place in a cheap cellar and he suddenly has to give the guitar back to the Countess and her companions. Suddenly there are even two guitars that look absolutely alike. As the situation becomes more and more opaque, Mario decides to no longer play the game and flees. A decisive factor for this is a conversation he overheard between the so-called Countess and her companions, during which it turns out that Yvonne von Fouqué and Aristide are a married couple and that Tutu is the young woman's father. Of course, his escape does not go undiscovered for long, and the trio, assuming that Mario has taken the guitar that has been prepared with the real diamonds, pursues him to the limit. The criminal police have been on the trail of the crooks for a long time and are arresting the criminals who had the guitar with the diamonds in the car with them all the time, believing that it was the wrong one.

For Mario, however, there is a happy ending that means far more to him than the guitar, Manina forgives him and accepts his marriage proposal.
