Hermann Friedrich Karl von Stülpnagel (born January 6, 1839 in Potsdam , † March 1, 1912 in Darmstadt ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and city commander of Frankfurt am Main.

His parents were the Prussian Lieutenant General Karl Bernhard von Stülpnagel (1794–1875) and his wife Eleonore, née von Bismarck (1805–1876) from the Briest family .

Military career

Stülpnagel received his education at the grammar school in Halberstadt , then came to Potsdam as a cadet on May 1, 1851, and from there to Berlin on May 1, 1854 , where he became the personal page of Queen Elisabeth of Prussia . On May 2, 1857, he was a second lieutenant of the 1st Guards Regiment walk the Prussian Army transferred. There he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on June 25, 1865 and from May 7, 1866 worked as an adjutant at the General Command of the Guard Corps . On June 16, 1871, he was commanded as a wing adjutant to Kaiser Wilhelm I. Left in this position, he was transferred as military attaché to the Prussian embassy in Munich on August 6, 1871 . On March 22, 1872 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords. Stülpnagel rose to major on August 18, 1872 , received the Russian Order of Saint Stanislaus, 2nd class with crown and swords, and the Order of the Iron Crown, 2nd class , on December 6, 1872 . On May 8, 1876, he was awarded the command of the Bavarian Order of Military Merit . On March 22, 1877 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on April 12, 1881, under position à la suite, he was entrusted with the command of the Guard Fusilier Regiment .

On November 13, 1882, when he was promoted to colonel, he was appointed regimental commander. Wilhelm II gave him the character of Lieutenant General on March 24, 1890 . He also awarded Stülpnagel with the Order of the Crown, 1st Class on March 22, 1898 and the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st Class with Oak Leaves and Swords on September 15, 1905. With the approval of his resignation request , Stülpnagel was put up for disposal on July 2, 1907 with the statutory pension and the right to wear the uniform of the Guard Fusilier Regiment . He died on March 1, 1912 in Darmstadt, but was buried in Frankfurt am Main.

In his assessment from 1863 it said: “The Premier-Lieutenant von Stülpnagel is an excellent officer in every respect. Physically agile, mentally active and intelligent, extremely dutiful, he knows just as well how to deal with his subordinates as he occupies an excellent position in the officer corps. He is particularly suitable for a preferential promotion because he is one of the best instructed and best officers who have been trained here in the regiment. "

Stülpnagel married on March 1, 1877 in Munich Luise Freiin von der Tann-Rathsamhausen (1856-1907), daughter of the Bavarian general of the infantry Ludwig von der Tann-Rathsamhausen and his wife Anna Countess von Voss . The couple had several children:
