Duchy of Rethel
Rethel is the name of a historical territory around the city of Rethel in northern Champagne .
King Henry III In 1581 raised the county of Rethel in favor of Charles of Gonzaga , Duke of Nevers , to a duchy, which later passed to Mazarin through purchase . He bequeathed it in 1661 to Armand Charles de La Porte , the husband of his niece and heiress Hortensia Mancini , who had carried the title "Duke of Mazarin" from the time they married.
