Orval is located about 40 kilometers south-southeast of Bourges on the Cher . Orval is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Amand-Montrond in the north and east, Bouzais in the south, Orcenais in the west and Nozières in the north-west.
The A71 autoroute and the former route nationale 725 (today's D925) run through the municipality .
