Neuvy-le-Barrois is about 56 kilometers southeast of Bourges . The Allier limits the community in the east. Neuvy-le-Barrois is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Apremont-sur-Allier in the north, Saincaize-Meauce in the northeast, Mars-sur-Allier in the east, Mornay-sur-Allier in the south, Sancoins in the southwest, Grossouvre in the west and La Chapelle -Hugon to the northwest.
