Cours-les-Barres is located about 48 kilometers east-southeast of Bourges and about ten kilometers west-northwest of Nevers on the Loire , which borders the municipality in the east, and on the Canal latéral à la Loire . Cours-les-Barres is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Jouet-sur-l'Aubois in the north, Germigny-sur-Loire in the northeast, Garchizy in the east and northeast, Fourchambault in the east and southeast, Cuffy in the south and Torteron in the west and southwest.
