Vernais is located about 44 kilometers south-southeast of Bourges on the Canal du Berry . Vernais is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bannegon in the north and north-east, Bessais-le-Fromental in the east and south-east, Ainay-le-Château in the south, Charenton-du-Cher in the west and Thaumiers in the north-west.
