Rezay is a French municipality with 213 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Cher in the region Center-Val de Loire .

geography

Rezay is 25 kilometers southwest of Saint-Amand-Montrond in the Boischaut sud in the southern part of the Champagne Berrichonne , a region of the Berry . The Sinaise flows through the municipality.

history

The community was decried as a "wizarding village". There are numerous stories about wizards and witches in Rezay that are said to have occurred as late as the 20th century. For example, a copy of the magic book Grand Albert was allegedly found there in 1951 .

The population has decreased dramatically since the 19th century. Rezay had the most inhabitants in 1856 (1006).

Attractions

Notre-Dame church

The Notre-Dame church was rebuilt in 1875. In the church there are two stone statues from the 15th and 16th centuries.

economy

The main occupation of the Rezayens is the breeding of domestic cattle and domestic sheep.

Personalities

The writer Jean-Louis Boncœur (1911–1997) lived in Rezay for several years. Among other things, he wrote about the Champagne Berrichonne , the superstition and the dialect of the region.
