A year earlier he was awarded the Arlas Talent Prize as the best U-19 youth player . After only seven appearances in his first season, he did not play a single league game in the next two years. Only in the 2002/2003 season he came back to use, this season he played 18 league games, mostly as a substitute and scored two goals. On June 18, he scored the most important goal of his life. In the Brøndby Stadium against Brøndby IF he scored the decisive 1-0 winning goal in the 93rd minute. Since then the stadium has been called "Hjalte Park" by Copenhagen fans. With this goal, FC Copenhagen secured the Danish Super League in 2002/03 . In the following season he completed all 32 league games (two goals) and managed to defend the title with his team and thus win the Danish Super League 2003/04 . In addition, the FC won the final of the Danish Football Cup this season . In the final they won against Aalborg BK 1-0 through a goal by Morten Bisgaard in the 28th minute. Nørregaard got the award as the most combative player of the tournament. During the 2004/05 season he scored seven goals this season, underscoring his claim to a regular place. Because of his good performance, he was voted Player of the Year by FC Copenhagen fans.
In July 2005, Nørregaard moved to the Dutch club SC Heerenveen on a free transfer . But his stay in Heerenveen was not crowned with success, coach Gertjan Verbeek had expected the central midfielder to be much more dangerous, but in only sixteen games he scored only two goals, on matchday 13 against RBC Roosendaal and on matchday 26 against NAC Breda .
For this reason, the midfielder moved back to FC Copenhagen in 2006. With his club, he was able to qualify for the group stage of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League . There you were drawn into a group with Celtic Glasgow , Benfica Lisbon and Manchester United . In the Champions League, FC Copenhagen was a force at home. They scored 0-0 against Lisbon, against Manchester they created a sensation with a 1-0 win through Marcus Allbäck's goal and Celtic was sent home 3-1. However, all three away games were lost. In the end, Copenhagen just missed making it into the UEFA Cup due to the worse goal difference compared to Benfica . In addition to the quite good performance in the Champions League, he also won the Danish Super League in 2006/07 . In qualifying for the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League they knocked out Beitar Jerusalem in the second round , but failed again in the third round to Benfica Lisbon. That season, Nørregaard scored three goals in 27 games. The Danish Superliga 2007/08 had to be surrendered to Aalborg BK and only achieved a disappointing third place, so Copenhagen only played in the UEFA Cup 2008/09 . In the first round, Nørregaard scored his first goal in a 4-0 away win at Cliftonville FC and so far the only goal in a European competition. This time the club made it to the round of 32 and had to face Manchester City . The first leg in Parking ended 2-2, the game at the City of Manchester Stadium was lost 2-1. But the Danish Super League 2008/09 went back to Copenhagen. However, Nørregaard only scored one goal of the season. At the end of the season he was voted Player of the Year for the second time by fans. For the 2009/10 season he was promoted to captain by coach Ståle Solbakken . After Copenhagen failed in the playoffs for the UEFA Champions League 2009/10 to APOEL Nicosia , they reached second place in the group stage with PSV Eindhoven , CFR Cluj and Sparta Prague and thus advanced to the next round. The next round ended after two 3-1 defeats against Olympique Marseille . By winning the Danish Superliga in 2009/10 and winning the qualifying matches against BATE Baryssau and Rosenborg Trondheim , the club reached the group stage of the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League again since the 2006/07 season . In the group with FC Barcelona , Rubin Kazan and Panathinaikos Athens surprisingly reached second place and thus moved into the second round. However, Nørregaard was only used in two games and in the league, he only brought it on missions.
During the winter break of the 2010/11 season, Nørregaard left FC Copenhagen and moved to the Viasat Sport Division , joining Aarhus GF , where he signed a three and a half year contract. Half a year later he was promoted to the Danish super league with the East Jutes .
