Hofdorf ( Bavarian : Hodorf ) is a church village and the largest district of the Upper Palatinate town of Wörth an der Donau in the Regensburg district in Bavaria .

Geographical location

Hofdorf is located on a foothill of the Falkensteiner Vorwald , five kilometers east of Wörth and about two kilometers north of the Danube on the edge of the Gäuboden . Immediately to the south-west of the village is the old Danube arm of the Gmünder Au nature reserve . The border to the neighboring district of Straubing-Bogen and thus to the administrative district of Lower Bavaria runs just under a kilometer to the south .

history

Village square with St. Michael church, Hofdorf

The year 1002 is regarded as the year Hofdorf was founded. In a document from 1134, Bishop Heinrich, Count von Wolfratshausen , declared that he would donate vineyards to the Prüll Monastery near Hofdorf. The place name is said to come from a noble owner belonging to the Hoferldorfer family . In 1580 the Straubing Carmelite monastery became the landlord of Hofdorf. In 1697 a large fire raged in the village, which destroyed numerous buildings and the church. In addition, Hofdorf was hit by large fires in 1744, 1804 and 1875.

The history of the place is closely connected with its church St. Michael. → Main article Church of St. Michael (Hofdorf)

The place was formerly a wine-growing place; viticulture is already mentioned in a document from 1134. Today only street names remind of this. In addition, old documents indicate that there was a brewery in 1857 and probably earlier, which probably ceased operations in 1924.

From 1945 to 1948 the community of Zinzendorf came to Hofdorf temporarily at the instigation of the US military government . On April 1, 1948, Zinzendorf was independent again. The municipality of Hofdorf opened up the Morgensternweg as the first post-war development area in 1953. Hofdorf was an independent municipality until the regional reform. The last mayor was Josef Kaiser, his predecessor Konrad Lutz.

Hofdorf was the location of a school early on , probably (due to a first mention) from 1761. In 1848 (from 1920 to 1922 the rectory was built on this site), as was the case in 1886, a new school was built. Until 1928, the Hofdorf school included the villages of Hofdorf, Stadldorf, Kieflmauth, Hungersacker , Weihern , Hornau, Waxenberg , Tiefenthals Ostteil as well as Zinzendorf and Hof. In 1928 a school house was built in Weihern . From then on, the villages of Weihern and Hungersacker were supplied by the local school. In 1962, the school Hofdorf was expanded before the 1972 Education Association Hofdorf-Pondorf dissolved. Since then, the students have been taught in Wörth an der Donau. From 1976 to 1993 the Wörth school relocated some classes to Hofdorf due to a lack of space, school operations were finally closed in 1993, and the city's archives have been temporarily housed in the building since 2017.
