Career
During his time at Michigan State University he played on the junior team and was one of the outstanding players in the university league. In the 1998 NHL Entry Draft , the Edmonton Oilers selected him as 99th in the fourth round. He stayed at the university for two more years to graduate.
Although he was always successful in university ice hockey, disappointment followed in the Oilers' training camp for the 2000/01 season : he did not succeed in asserting himself, and so he was sent to the AHL farm team with the Hamilton Bulldogs . There he impressed with 28 points in 24 games, so that he moved up to the NHL squad in early December. On December 13, 2000, he scored his first goal in the NHL against the Dallas Stars . Horcroff initially played as a defensive attacker, but year after year he improved his stats.
After being in the 2002/03 season at the NHL Young Stars Game took part, he also played at the 2003 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships , where she won the Canadian national title. The following year he was able to defend the title with his team.
He spent the 2004/05 strike season in Sweden at Mora IK . Back in the NHL, he was the Oilers' second best scorer with 73 points behind Aleš Hemský . The team barely made it to the playoffs, but there the team managed to prevail and they reached the final. However, his two goals in the final series were not enough to beat the Carolina Hurricanes .
After the 2006/07 season was not particularly successful for him, he was able to improve again for the following season and had already achieved the 16 goals he had scored in the previous season at the turn of the year.
On October 6, 2010, he was named the 13th team captain in the history of the Edmonton Oilers.
On July 4, 2013, he was transferred to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Philip Larsen and a seven-round suffrage in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . After two years in Dallas, his contract was not renewed, so he joined the Anaheim Ducks as a free agent in July 2015 . In January 2016 Horcoff was banned for 20 games because he had violated the doping regulations of the NHL ("Performance Enhancing Substances Program"). According to his own statement, he wanted to accelerate the healing process of an injury with the unspecified substance and was not aware of the prohibition in terms of doping.
A few weeks later, in March 2016, he played his 1000th game in the NHL. After the 2015/16 season, he announced the end of his playing career. He then moved to the management of Detroit Red Wings and has been Director of Player Development there ever since .
