IC 1581 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 494 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 253 / IC 1576 , IC 1578 , IC 1579 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on November 3, 1898 .
