IC 1579 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the Sculptor constellation in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 305 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 80,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy IC 1581 .
The Type IIP supernova SN 2008gr was observed here.
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on November 3, 1898 .
