The Institut français de la mode is a French elite university ( Grande école ) for fashion , luxury and design in Paris . The Dean is Dominique Jacomet, Managing Director Sylvie Ebel and President Pierre Bergé (as of 2014).

The institute is located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, directly on the Seine on the Quai d'Austerlitz . It was founded in 1986 with the support of the French Ministry of Industry ( Ministère de l'Industrie , since 2012 Ministère du Redressement Productif ) and continues to be under the auspices of the Ministry.

Education

The educational institution is a member of the Conférence des grandes écoles and the International Foundation of Fashion Institutes . Grandes écoles provide degrees that are formally equivalent to those of the French universities , but are often above them in terms of prestige.

According to its own information, the institute has more than 150 students. These already have a university degree, so each is a postgraduate course . In addition, more than 2000 people attend professional development events at the institute every year .

The focus of studies at the institute is management and design . This is followed by a practical training phase in an established company in which creativity plays a special role, or the students develop their own business model. All in all, graduates should be enabled to “overcome the threshold between management and design” in creative companies.

Promotion by the economy

Well-known French companies and foundations support the institute's research work, the publication of the scientific journal Mode de Recherche and a fund with which around 40 percent of the students receive a scholarship. These companies and foundations include Chanel , Chloé , Christian Dior , Disneyland Paris , Pierre Bergé Foundation - Yves Saint Laurent , Hermès Foundation , Galeries Lafayette , Kenzo , Louis Vuitton , L'Oréal , Printemps and Vivarte .
