Jacob Haight

Jacob Haight (born March 4, 1775 or March 4, 1776, † around 1860 in Catskill , New York ) was an American politician .

Career

Jacob Haight was born before the outbreak or during the War of Independence . Nothing is known about his youth. He served in the New York Senate from 1824 to 1827 . In 1828 he was one of the founders of the Catskill and Ithaca Railroad, which was never built. He was Treasurer of State of New York from 1839 to 1842 . His tenure was overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 . He also held the post of sheriff .

He was married twice. His first marriage was to Catherine Graham of Fishkill, New York, daughter of the Hon. Daniel Graham. The marriage produced several children, including Edward (1824–1829), Jane and Samuel. After the death of his first wife, he married Maria Burgess, widow of Lawrence Seckel. The couple had a son named Mandeville.
