Charles N. Ross also Charles Nelson Ross (born December 25, 1842 in Port Byron , Cayuga County , New York , † November 24, 1923 in Hartford , Hartford County , Connecticut ) was an American banker and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Charles N. Ross, son of Elmore P. Ross († 1879), was a wealthy man from Cayuga County ( New York ). His childhood was overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 and the Mexican-American War . He graduated from Yale College in 1862 during the Civil War . Shortly thereafter, he became a cashier at the First National Bank of Auburn, in which his father owned a majority stake. After the merger of Auburn City Bank and the First National Bank of Auburn, he became the president of the new bank. In 1874 he was elected mayor of Auburn . He was New York Treasurer of State from 1876 ​​to 1877 . In 1876 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention . He disappeared in early 1880, which is rumored to be due to an impending bankruptcy.
