Nathan D. Wendell

Nathan D. Wendell (* 1835 in Fort Plain , New York , † January 5, 1886 in Albany , New York) was an American banker and politician .

Career

Nathan D. Wendell's youth were overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 and the Mexican-American War . He was doing an apprenticeship as a printer . In 1854 he moved to Albany, New York, where he began working for the Merchants' National Bank and did so until his death. Wendell became cashier there in 1864 and vice-president in 1880.

He belonged to the Republican Party . In 1872 he was elected treasurer in Albany County . In the presidential election in 1876 he stood as an elector for Rutherford B. Hayes and William A. Wheeler . In 1884 he participated in the delegate as a substitute Republican National Convention in Chicago ( Illinois part). The Republican Party nominated him in 1879 for the post of Treasurer of State of New York. He won the next election in November 1879, and then held the post from 1880 to 1881.

Wendell was a co-owner of the Albany Morning Express newspaper . He was also the bankruptcy administrator of Universal Life Insurance Company in New York City .
