Julius Hauser (born August 7, 1854 in the Grand Duchy of Baden , † March 26, 1920 in Sayville , New York ) was an American businessman and politician ( Democratic Party ). He was New York Treasurer of State from 1907 to 1909 .

Career

Julius Hauser immigrated to the United States in 1869 . He did an apprenticeship as a baker . In 1878 he settled in Sayville, New York, where he ran a large bakery . From 1902 he chaired the Democratic Committee in Suffolk County . He was several years town clerk ( Town Clerk ) from Islip (New York). In 1903 he was elected Supervisor of Town Islip. Hauser still held the post when he was nominated for the office of Treasurer of State of New York in 1906 by the Democratic Party and the Independence League . Though William Randolph Hearst , leader of the Independence League, suffered defeat to New York Governor Charles Evans Hughes , all other nominees were elected. In his re-election in 1908, Hauser suffered a defeat against the Republican Thomas B. Dunn . In May 1907, a forest fire destroyed his Huckleberry farm on Long Island . Hauser was a director of the Oystermen's National Bank of Islip. He died of stomach cancer in his residence on Green Avenue in Sayville.
