Abraham Keyser Junior

Abraham Keyser junior (born April 20, 1784 in Schoharie County , New York , † 1873 in Albany , New York) was an American politician .

Career

Abraham Keyser junior, son of Maria Margaretha Schaffer (* 1762) and Abraham Keyser (* around 1762), was born in what was then the district of Schoharie in Albany County , which after the creation of Schoharie County in 1797 became part of the town of Middleburgh , separated in 1828 and is now part of the Town of Fulton . Nothing is known about his youth. He married Catharina Bauch in 1800. The couple had nine children. Among them was Peter Keyser (1800–1881), who was Deputy Treasurer of State and Chief Accountant and Transfer Clerk in the Comptrollers Office for over 30 years .

Abraham Keyser Jr. served as the Sheriff of Schoharie County in 1815 and 1819 . During his tenure, his deputy sheriff Huddleston was murdered by John Van Alstine, who was executed for it in 1819. Keyser appeared as a witness at the main hearing before Judge Ambrose Spencer . He then sat from 1820 to 1822 for Schoharie County in the New York State Assembly . He was then from 1824 to 1825 and from 1826 to 1838 Treasurer of State of New York.
