Robert A. Maxwell

Robert A. Maxwell (* 1838 in Washington County , New York , † June 8, 1912 in Batavia , New York) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He was Treasurer of State of New York from 1882 to 1885 .

Life

Robert A. Maxwell's youth were overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 and the Mexican-American War , and the following years by the Civil War . He was elected Treasurer of State of New York in November 1881 and re-elected in 1883. The Governor of New York David B. Hill appointed him on December 28, 1885 the Superintendent of Insurance. Maxwell held the post from January 1, 1886 to February 1891. The former New York Senator James F. Pierce (1830-1905) followed him into office. The President Grover Cleveland appointed Maxwell in March 1893 Deputy for the fourth US Postmaster General - a post he held until the end of the administration of Cleveland in March 1897th In 1896 he supported John M. Palmer of the National Democratic Party for the presidency.
