Isaac V. Vanderpoel

Isaac V. Vanderpoel (* 1814 in Kinderhook , New York , † March 25, 1871 in Buffalo , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . He was Treasurer of State of New York from 1858 to 1859 .

Career

Isaac V. Vanderpoel, son of Benjamin Vanderpoel, was born in Columbia County during the British-American War . He attended the Kinderhook Academy. Nothing more is known about his youth. Vanderpoel studied law with J. & A. Vanderpoel law firm in Kinderhook and with Price & Sears law firm in New York City . He was admitted to the bar in 1834 and then began practicing in Aurora, New York. From 1837 to 1845 he served as a Brigade Inspector in the 47th  Regiment of the New York Militia . Vanderpoel was elected Treasurer of State of New York in November 1857. In his re-election in 1859 he suffered a defeat to the Republican Philip Dorsheimer . The following years were overshadowed by the civil war. In January 1866, he founded a law firm in Buffalo, New York with Grover Cleveland , later President of the United States , which existed until 1869 when Vanderpoel was elected Police Judge .
