Alvah Hunt
Alvah Hunt (born around 1798 in Seekonk , Massachusetts , † October 28, 1858 in New York City ) was an American trader and politician . He was New York Treasurer of State from 1848 to 1851 .
Career
Nothing is known about Alvah Hunt's youth. He lived in Greene, New York. There he married Anna Birdsall († 1878). From 1839 to 1842 he sat for the 6th district in the New York Senate . His tenure was overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 . Hunt was a member of the Whig Party at the time . He was elected Treasurer of State of New York in November 1847 and confirmed in November 1849. During his tenure, the Mexican-American War came to an end. Hunt moved to New York City after his tenure ended. He became treasurer of the Des Moines Improvement Company .
