Jacqueline Scott

Jacqueline Sue Scott (born June 25, 1931 in Sikeston , Missouri - † July 23, 2020 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress who has starred in more than 100 films and television series since 1956. In addition to her appearances in dozens of television series, she gained notoriety primarily through roles in Steven Spielberg's debut film Duell and the thriller The Great Coup .

Life

Jacqueline Scott was born on January 1, 1932 in Sikeston, Scott County . She attends a total of 15 different schools because her father often had to move for work. She graduated from high school in Neosho .

Scott began her career as an actress in a small theater company in St. Louis , before moving to New York and performing in larger theaters there. Her first role on Broadway was with The Wooden Dish alongside Louis Calhern . She also played in Inherit the Wind on the side of Paul Muni .

Scott got her first film role in 1958 in Macabre . She had her first appearance in a television series two years earlier. Here they discovered the producers of the film and hired Scott for the role of Polly Baron .

In the following years she played supporting roles in several other film productions, but remained mainly active on television. Scott's appearances there included nine episodes of the western series Smoking Colts from 1959 to 1972, in which she impersonated both Abelia Johnson and Anne Madison . From 1964 to 1967, Scott appeared occasionally as Donna Kimble Taft , sister of the main character Dr. See Richard Kimble in On the Run . Between 1966 and 1973 she worked in a total of four episodes of the crime series FBI . In 1969 she played a supporting role as Laurie Mills in the western Frank Patch - Your hours are numbered at the side of her film partner Jimmy Lydon .

Jacqueline Scott had one of her best-known film appearances in 1971 in Steven Spielberg's debut film Duel , in which she played the role of Mrs. Mann , the wife of the main character David Mann, played by Dennis Weaver . The thriller, which was only intended for television broadcasts, became extremely successful and helped Scott to bigger roles. She was seen as Nadine Varrick in the thriller The Great Coup in 1973 and in the animal horror film In the violence of the giant ants in 1977 . In 1987, Scott played the role of Ruth Wilson in the television series The Rich and Beautiful . Until 2004 she played numerous guest appearances in well-known series and sitcoms. Scott made her last film appearance in 2009 in Sugar Boxx .

Scott had been married to Gene Lesser since 1958. The couple have two children. Even in old age, she appeared for interviews about her acting career, including in the spring of 2018 together with her colleague Jan Shepard in the TV and YouTube series A Word on Western about her roles in Smoking Colts .

Jacqueline Scott died of lung cancer on July 23, 2020 at the age of 89 .
