The Japan U-23 national soccer team is a selection team of Japanese soccer players . It is subordinate to the Japanese football association JFA and represents it internationally at the U-23 level , for example in friendly matches against the teams of other national associations, at U-23 Asian championships and the football tournaments of the Summer Olympics and the Asian Games .

So far, the team has qualified for the Olympic football tournament six times. In 2012 she reached fourth place in her fifth participation. Japan took part in the U-23 Asian Cup three times and became Asian champions in the second edition in 2016 . At the Asian Games, the gold medal was won in 2010 and the silver medal in 2002 and 2018 .

Eligible to play are players who have not yet reached the age of 23 and who are Japanese citizens.
